CRP (C-Reactive Protein)
CRP is an inflammation marker produced by the liver. It rises quickly with infection, injury, or chronic inflammation. High-sensitivity CRP also estimates cardiovascular risk.
Normal ranges
Adults: < 5 mg/L. Cardiovascular risk (hs-CRP): < 1 low, 1–3 moderate, > 3 high.
Units: mg/L
Causes of deviations
Low levels:
Low CRP is the norm — it means no active inflammation.
High levels:
Infections, autoimmune flares, obesity, smoking, tissue injury.
When to see a doctor
If persistently elevated without obvious cause — to find the source of inflammation.
