Total Testosterone

What is it?

Testosterone is the main male sex hormone. Women produce smaller amounts. It affects muscle mass, libido, and mood.

Normal ranges

Men: 8.5–28 nmol/L. Women: 0.5–2.5 nmol/L.

Causes of deviations

Low levels:

Hypogonadism, aging, obesity, chronic disease.

High levels:

Tumors, PCOS in women, anabolic steroid use.

When to see a doctor

If you have deficiency symptoms (low libido, fatigue) or elevated levels.
